Age, illness, or accidents can result in a great deal of damage to your teeth. Unfortunately, a damaged smile can be less functional making eating more difficult, and furthermore leave you not feeling confident in the appearance of your smile.
If you need a good deal of dental work or tooth replacement, you may have heard the term full mouth reconstruction before. What does it mean though, and what does this procedure entail?
A full mouth reconstruction is also sometimes called full mouth rehabilitation. Essentially, it means the individual restructuring of each tooth in a person’s mouth. The need for this is typically when all the teeth are worn, broken, missing, or a combination of these.
At Pumphrey Periodontics, our goal is to make your teeth look so natural that others cannot tell if they are real or restorations. We do this by first determining the solutions. It used to be that dentures were the most common solution. With today’s modern dental technologies, we now often use crowns, veneers, inlays, bridges and/or implants. These solutions are more reliable, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing — and can last forever.
One appointment will focus on the preparation in which any old restorations, teeth that cannot be repaired, and decay will be removed. Then, we’ll take impressions and make temporary teeth. At your second appointment about 3 weeks later, we’ll remove the temporary teeth and replace them with the final restorations. Voila — A beautiful new smile!
