Sedation Levels
We offer several levels of sedation, depending on your situation. Nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” is a mild sedative that you breathe in through a nose mask, which leaves your mouth free. It can help you relax more completely without taking away your awareness of what is happening. It can also help patients who need a little more to get numb by making novocaine more effective. When you are done with the treatment, the gas is turned off and you are ready to drive and go about your regular routines immediately.
We also offer higher levels of sedation with either an oral sedative or IV sedation. In either case, you will still be aware enough to respond to requests, but you will be very relaxed and can seem to be asleep. With these levels of sedation, you may not remember any of your appointment.
The only drawback to this level of sedation is that you’ll need to have someone drive you to and from your appointment, because you’ll be too relaxed to drive.
